Portrait of a Paddock

This research has been conducted on Gunditjmara Country.

This performance is an unfolding of experimental choreographic outcomes through what I've called, Digital Dancescapes, which are digital environments containing different combinations of live and pre-recorded choreography and technology. Each scene is constructed differently using virtual production, motion capture, animation and connected through recorded and live movement, sound and text.

The land that has inspired the research is Gunditjmara Country near Coleraine in regional Victoria, where I have deep family connections. It's also the land (now a paddock) where the first 'run' was situated, where the land was stolen first. I am looking at this land from 1830s, to today, telling different stories over that time. I aim to tell truths I wasn't told as a child, give respect to the land, contribute to repairing my family’s connection to a colonised place and acknowledge First Nations care for the land.

Acknowledgement

This research this work has evolved from, Decentring Colonisation through Place-Based Digital Dance, acknowledges the traditional owners of country throughout Australia and their continuing connection to land, culture land community.
